SUMMARY:VJ Day 80 Commemorations and Bunker Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join us to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ Day).\nThis follows four days of events in May commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which marked the end of the Second World War in Europe.\nHowever, 80 years ago, while celebrations took place across Europe, thousands of Allied personnel continued fighting in Asia and the Pacific. The conflict in the East persisted for another three months until Victory over Japan (VJ Day) was declared on 15 August 1945, following Imperial Japan’s surrender to Allied Forces. Alongside British Armed Forces, hundreds of thousands of people from across world, including pre-partition India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Nepal, and several African nations, served with distinction in the Far East campaign.\nA two-minute silence will take place at 11:00 in our Memorial Garden. This will be followed by commemorative tours of the Bunker – the headquarters of No. 11 Group Fighter Command from 1939-1945 – which will highlight how the operations conducted from the Bunker contributed to victory.\nTour times are at 12:00 and 14:00\n
