OUR SESSIONS

Our sessions support Second World War themes in the National Curriculum, as well as cross-curricular links, such as literature, art and design, and maths.

HISTORY EXPLORERS

HISTORY EXPLORERS

Students are taught about Operation Sea Lion and the Bunker’s role in the Battle of Britain and the Dowding System. Students can discover what it was like to work in the Bunker by plotting coordinates onto the classroom map, taking part in our dexterity challenge and handling and learning from objects used in the Bunker.

Recommended for Key Stage 2.

Timing: 90 minutes including a 30-minute private tour of the Bunker

Curriculum links: History, English, Art and Design.

Cost: Hillingdon schools are £68 per session and non Hillingdon schools are £115.50 per session. SEND Schools are FREE.

HOME EDUCATORS 

Home educating families are welcome to visit at any time. However, if you would like to book a History Explorers session alongside other homeschooling families please do get in touch.

 

SELF-LED ACTIVITY TRAIL

Get the most out of your trip to the bunker by downloading our self-led activity trail. Our trail takes students through the visitor centre, helping them learn more about the Battle of Britain, and engage with objects from the Second World War.

THIS SELF-GUIDED TOUR IS DESIGNED FOR KEY STAGE 2 STUDENTS, AND SHOULD TAKE 30 TO 60 MINUTES.

Sessions can be created or adapted based on your class’s year group or learning ability. Please contact our Education Officer for more details.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  Sessions are available to book Monday to Friday.

    • Morning sessions are from 10am to 11.30am
    • Afternoon sessions are from 12.30pm to 2pm.
    • Lunch space is available from 11.30am to 12.30pm, but must be booked in advance.
    • Please note that our sessions only involve the Learning Centre and Bunker tour. If you would like to visit the visitor centre, please allow for extra time outside of your booked session.
    • Maximum session size is 35 pupils.
    • There must be one teacher per group, and one adult per 10 pupils.
    • Each session involves one hour in the Learning Centre, followed by a half-hour private tour of the bunker.
    • Self-led activity sheets for the visitor centre are available and can be sent to you, free of charge, no need to book in advance. (Activity takes 30 to 45 minutes).
    • Please note that the bunker has 77 stairs and two soundscapes (which can be turned off) and is therefore not accessible for everyone. Please see our Families page for more information on sensory maps and get in touch if you need alternative provisions.
