FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We hope the following information will help you plan your trip to the Bunker. If you cannot find the answer to your question, or require any further information, please contact us.

What is the Bunker tour?

The only way to visit the Bunker is on a guided tour, which takes you down 76 steps into our underground 1940s Operations Room. Tours last for approximately one hour, and consist of a seated presentation, followed by a visit to the newly refreshed Bunker exhibition. Tour dates and times can be found using the calendar on the front page of our website.

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advance is advised, especially in busy periods, as it guarantees you a ticket for the Bunker tour. A limited number of tickets are available from the Front Desk each day, but are subject to availability. You can contact us in advance to check availability on the day.

What will my day look like?

When you arrive at the museum, please report to the Front Desk at our main entrance, where a member of staff will admit you. You do not need to print tickets in advance. Museum opening hours are 10-16:30, and you are welcome to look around out Visitor Centre and Exhibition before and after your selected tour slot. Tours leave promptly and latecomers may not be admitted, so please aim to arrive in good time for your booking. Please check the About Us & Accessibility page for more detailed information.

I can no longer make it, what should I do?

If you are no longer able to visit us, please contact us in advance where possible. If able, we will make every effort to transfer your booking to another date/time slot, or credit your account.

How do I book for a group?

Booking for groups of 10 or less can be done via our website. For bigger groups please contact us, and we can work with you to facilitate your trip.

Are tours suitable for children?

All ages are welcome in the Bunker, but due to the nature of the tour, it might not be suitable for very young children, and discretion is advised. If your child becomes restless or you need to leave the tour, there is a quiet area in the Bunker exhibition, with books, toys, and activities. Please alert the tour steward who will facilitate this. If you decide against the tour, there are resources in the Visitor Centre specifically aimed at younger children, including trails, interactive activities, dress-up, and the new Under 5s zone. Please visit our Schools & Families page for more information.

We currently offer Quiet Bunker Hours on request. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

Are photography and filming allowed?

Photography for private and non-commercial use is allowed throughout the museum and Bunker.  Filming is not permitted during tours. For all professional filming and photography enquiries, please contact us in advance.

Are dogs allowed onsite?

Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the outdoor areas and grounds of the museum.  Assistance dogs are welcome in the Visitor Centre and Exhibition. Dog bowls and water are available on our terrace.

Can I donate an object?

Due to our collections policy, we are unable to take unsolicited donations. If you are interested in donating an object, please contact us in advance, and the curatorial team will get back to you.
