Drop-in Crafts: Going for Gold!

Did you know? Twelve years after the last summer Games in Berlin, London hosted the 1948 Olympic Games. Held just three years after the end of the Second World War, they were nicknamed the ‘Austerity Games’ due to the country’s tight budget and recovering economy. Money was saved wherever possible – athletes were even told to bring their own towels!  No new facilities were built and there was no Olympic Village to accommodate participants. Instead, female athletes were housed in London colleges whilst male athletes stayed in RAF Stations, including RAF Uxbridge!

In celebration of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris and RAF Uxbridge’s historic ties to this famous sporting event, we will be running drop-in medal making workshops. Using clay and your imagination, you’ll design your very own Olympic medal which you can take home with you!

This craft is clay based and can get messy! Please wear appropriate attire.
