R J Mitchell is a legend. His design work on flying boats and his engineering prowess for the Schneider trophy led directly to the world’s most iconic aeroplane, the Spitfire. Paul Beaver, author and broadcaster, has just completed his biography of Britain’s greatest aeronautical engineer. He will surprise some and certainly perceptions of others.
